Chuckle's Pellets

I've talked before about a work gun-buddy named Chuckles.

He liks pellet guns. He recently discovered how fun they can be. He has little in the way of rifles but now wants to get a bunch of pellet guns.

And some pellet guns are INSANELY sophisticated. You saw some of the more sophisticated ones at the Olympics. These are much more mere Daisy Red Ryders or Crosman 3-Pump BB guns. Some of them require amazing gas pressures.

His advantage is that he can shoot them ON his own property, as he owns a few acres. Not enough for a proper gun range, but plenty for a pellet gun. There is no noise to irritate the neighbors a hundred yards away, and less risk from errant 'rounds'. They're my no means harmless. People DO varmint hunt with pellet guns.

And the things can be very precise. Witness the Olympics again.

But he'll still be able to buy them in the future, what about firearms for the here and nowin the very near future? We don't what the political climate will be, and he has no serious rifle to his name. Just .17 caliber number from Marlin. He'll be able to buy pellet guns for years, but an Assault Weapons Ban could come down the pike by an overreaching Congress and Administration in a year. They would be wrong to restrict a civil right, but they just might pull it off. And if a new AWB comes, his desire for the most popular sport utility rifle around, something on an AR platform, would be quashed.

I counselled him, but he is a stubborn one...

There is hope for him. He wanted a Garand before stumbling into the pellet-gun craze.

  1. They're not all mouseguns. This is just an affordable one.

I reserve the right to delete patently offensive comments. Or, really, any comment I feel like. Or I might leave a really juicy comment up for private ridicule. Also spammers.

You can always offend hippies in the comment section. Chances are, those will be held up as a proper example...
