Quick questions.

Does a Commander Slide ‘fit’ on an officer frame?

If I bought just a slide assembly (slide barrel, spring, bushing, etc.) and took my 1911 frame and it to the gunsmith, could I then pick and choose which length gun I want to run without dealing with getting another FFL transferred frame?

And lastly, is that a good idea, or might I just mung everything up?

  1. It can be done. Colt called it a CCO, which I think stood for Concealed Carry Officer or something. But before they did it people had done it on their own.

  2. IIRC its a pretty extensive modification to do because the commander dust cover is not long enough to meet the officers model frame .

You can always offend hippies in the comment section. Chances are, those will be held up as a proper example...
