Information on applying for CCW in MD
Also here, and more concise.
What you need:
Where to get your fingerprints taken care of. Find a place that does them electronically. There is a list on the webpages
What the application form looks like. You need 3 references that have known you for 2 years and are reputable. You need their full name, address, employer name, and resulting phone numbers for their work and home. You need the application notarized. You need the notarization and fingerprinting and submission via the mail to be close together,in time, so nothing 'expires.' Don't delay. Do it all in one week.
For the reason on the application on why you want a CCW, don't put "to stick it to the Man!" put: "For self defense and all lawful purposes." or summat. NOW you don't have to cite police reports of actual threats. It's Shall Issue now.
Get 1.5x1.5 passport photos, 2.
I've lined up references. Not for a passport photo and that place will probably also do notarization, so I'll come back to it after I get the fingerprint chit. Then it's just put them all together and mail it with the check.
Interested in hearing how this goes. Keep us posted.
ReplyDeleteNext step: Reciprocity with VA!
Thanks for the links, NJT - I was wondering about some of these things. That Maryland Shall Issue Site is excellent.
ReplyDeleteHell - Pikesville for the LiveScan? I hate Pikesville. Gah!
I am wondering if I should ahve all Maryland References or will the upstanding MBtGE of Virginia be ok...
ReplyDeleteYou can use references from outside the state.
ReplyDeleteYou've got to be kidding me. The Feds had to step in because the State wouldn't let you Conceal Carry based on THOSE Forms? Bro, in Ohio, we have to fill out similar forms, PLUS list everyplace we ever lived since 18, PLUS go to Shooting School (on our dime!), and then, we only have Reciprocity with about 20 states.
ReplyDeleteOh, I can guarantee that our Former U.S. Senator, RINO Mike DeWine (who is now our State Attorney General) will NOT "Allow" reciprocity with Maryland. Why? No Provision for "Basic Firearms Training" (i.e. Shooting School).
Get your CHP ASAP, then see if you can get a Florida Out-of-State Permit. That'll cover you in Ohio.
Lord, the Hoops our "Public Servants" make us go through....
Except for the "May Issue" part, Maryland is one of the best states to have a CCW in. Very few restrictions on where you can carry.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly how MA is, too, T-bolt...
ReplyDelete"Except for the "May Issue" part, Maryland is one of the best states to have a CCW in. Very few restrictions on where you can carry."
ReplyDeleteSame with DE. Good luck T-Bolt!
Laura - References from outside the state?! Christ, Mine can't even be from outside my COUNTY.
If carry is only theoretical, why restrict where it may theoretically be done? ;)
ReplyDeleteThat'll be the interesting response by the powers-that-be. Do they fight the "shall-issue" up front, or do they tacitly acknowledge "may-issue" was intended to avoid the issue and go about trying to tighten up the time and place restrictions after the fact now that rationing won't work?
Oh it hasn't been theoretical. Senator Mikulski has a CCW, if I understand correctly. Others, too. Many gunstore owners do (because the cops don't want them carjacked when transporting). People that do business with lots of cash can get a CCW. Friends of governor can get them.
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend the Florida non-resident permit. It doesn't require a special class like Utah. They want "proof of firearms competency" rather than training. I used an NRA Basic Pistol course certificate of completion. Other than that it's get printed, fill out the forms, get them notarized, and mail 'em a check.
ReplyDeleteCompared to NY it was a breeze.
After I hear how yours goes, I'm going to apply for one in New Jersey...
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!! Hahahahaha!!! ...omg..it...hurts (snort). Haaaaaa.... (thud)
(hits floor in puddle of drool and snot, unconscious to dream of the prospect of EVER getting such a permit in New Jersey)

Wow we had it easy in Wisconsin. Take a 4 hour or so class if we haven't already taken hunter safety, fill out the one page form, and then send proof of class, The form, and a check to Madison.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Sorry the commisars are so restrictive in the socialist workers paradise of Maryland.
ReplyDeleteMy PA license was $25, two references, and a waiting period of up to 45 days.
3 week wait 7 years ago. It's usually less now depending on the county and sheriff.
