The last battle between battleships happened.

Part of the Battle of Leyte, this engagement happened in Surigao straight.

Admiral Oldendorf had six battleships: West Virginia, Maryland, Mississippi, Tennessee, California, and Pennsylvania.  All but Mississippi had been sunk or damaged in the attack on Pearl Harbor and repaired.

And that is kinda neat.  You can't reliably get that many battleships fightin' on one side in World of Warships.  Maybe every third game?  Like this:

  1. My son is in the Navy, almost done with his 6 years hitch, which he extended for 6 months, to accompany his ship on a deployment. The ship is currently in the Gulf of Oman, in the Arabian Sea. The ship is the USS Leyte Gulf.
A couple of weeks ago, the ship docked in Oman, and the Navy flew my son, along with several other people who were due to get out soon, back to the states. He called me when he got home, late at night. I only spoke for a few minutes with him, but he did tell me that things are very tense with Iran still. Until he was assigned to the ship, I never knew the history of the Leyte Gulf battle. What a huge battle, and a huge victory for the Allies.
