Thanks to Amazon order history, I know that this brand of gun belt will last exactly 3.5 years before it delaminates.
To be a good stiff leather belt, desirable for those that are unaware, normal belt leather is sewn to another normal belt layer. Inside to inside. Of the cow skin. Double layers make the belt double priced, typically. With really good stitching, this will last a while. Duluth Trading company makes a "Lifetime Belt" where the stitching lasts a year and the two leather layers come apart a little. The scourage of delamination. Which is sub-optimal. Fine for holding up pants when it delaminates. Starts to be an issue with holding up pants and holster.
All this is for a belt that looks fine at work and doesn't scream, "Steel core camo tacti-belt, watch out this guy is prolly a retired Army Ranger or something. Or wishes her were so." I dunno how long them fancier belts last. Haven't tested them. But would buy this brand again. Next brand to test is Bigfoot.
This is the belt I use. Best belt I ever had.

I've had one of the Duluth belts since 2014 and wear it 5 days a week. I even had to add new holes to it that I no longer need since mid 2020....
ReplyDeleteHow did yours die?
I bought a Bullhide belt one year during a Super Bowl sale - I think it's been more than seven years now. It's a solid, thick beast, and I've been drilling new holes as needed since I've dropped so much weight since I first got it. Plenty stiff enough for carry, too.
ReplyDeleteI believe it's this one: https://www.bullhidebelts.com/collections/gun-belts/products/black-smooth-edge-heavy-duty-bullhide-belt-sku-1001
Oh, I've also killed the original buckle, and a cheapo replacement. Right now it's running a solid brass one I got with a really crappy belt from a thrift store, and that's been four-plus years now.
I second Ygolonac: Bullhide belts. I have had three; the only reason I've replaced them is due to decreases in waist size.
ReplyDeleteCrossbreed Crossover Belt - end of story. Infinitely adjustable (IWB/OWB/unarmed), built to carry weight, appears to be a wider version of a dress belt, looks as good as it did when I bought it 4 years ago, and hippies would never wear it.
ReplyDeleteThese folks are good too - I have several of theirs.

BC, the stiching on the Duluth belt is proud of the leather, and it can abrade on your chair if your chair is the abradable kind.

ReplyDeleteIf you are not buying your belts from a holster maker, you are wasting your time/money. There were always students in class that made the decision to save money and buy cheap. Usually just a joke. If the holster is wandering around because of a poor choice, you have a problem.
ReplyDeleteI like Hank's belts, not too price, but good thick leather. Made in the USA too.

I can vouch for Bigfoot belts. Mine is great, still looks good. Give em a try!
ReplyDeleteI got mine from thebeltman.net It's lasted 7 or so years now. I do not daily carry a firearm, unfortunately as I work for a local government prohibited by law - but I wear the belt daily.
