Color me intrigued about a pistol caliber carbine concept.
It is my weakness. Luckily, I haven't spent any money on any yet. There is always some problem for me. The only one I've bought is a 1894C, and I sure don't regret THAT.
KRISS? Klunky and expensive, wrong magazine type. Would buy a full auto version, but that isn't going to ever be possible.
Camp Carbine? Saw my first one in the wild last fun show. Resisted. Too expensive for what it is (a 10/22 in .45ACP, really) and there are rumors it's too dirty.
Beretta CX4? Not for me.
See why it is easy for me to resist? But VAPORWARE (so far)? That gets the juices flowin'.

The .45 camp carbine can be integrally suppressed and in that configuration, it's incredible. Just FYI. John's Guns does the work on customer-supplied rifles.
Many years ago back in the 80's SOF Magazine wrote up a 9mm upper for the AR-15/M-16 fed from the left side with Sten mags, made out of steel channel, with a square bolt and a recip bolt handle. It was ugly as sin and only had a 6 or 7 inch threaded barrel, but R.K. Brown and Pete Kokalis sung it's praises mightily. I don't know if it's still around but if you search for it you might find the patent on it.
LOVE IT, especially the idea of a left-feed 7.62x39mm or 5.45x39mm upper that feeds AK mags but doesn't require a dedicated "AK-mag" lower or dorked up mutant AR mags. They'll eject out the standard AR15 magwell just fine.
I did suggest he cut a "chamber window" where the ejection port would usually go (albeit smaller) for chamber checks.
Hell, a .45ACP upper using M3 mags or Glock mags wouldn't be a problem, and could ALSO be integrally suppressed.
Now that I have plentiful supplies of 10mm components but have retired the G20, I thought about a 10mm AR upper. But, like the .25 ACP Browning Baby, am unable to come up with a $ufficient reason.
.357 or .44 levergun?
Going the other way I gave my Dad a carbine caliber revolver.

My personal favorite is the KelTec Sub2000. I have a his & hers set for my wife and I that take Glock magazines that match our primary carry guns. They are available in 9mm and .40 S&W, and you can pick what pistol magazine it is compatible with from several choices when you order your Sub2000.
.40 S&W carbine is soda can accurate out to 100 yards easily, works a treat on rabbits and coyotes out to about the same distance. It sounds like a .22lr when it goes off.
Another neat feature, it folds at the breech into an OAL of 16.25" and goes inside a day-pack, messenger bag or motorcycle saddlebag. Very, very cool kit.
I bought the universal rail mount that slips into the underside of the forend, and use it to mount a simple white light. Would also work with a laser or laser/light combo, or anything that will fit a universal pistol mount or some that will fit a picatinny short rail.
We love ours, and they have been almost 100% reliable. The only problem I had was with a "practice only" Glock magazine that had damaged feed lips, never a problem with any other setup.
