We can't make self driving trains. Which, you know, literally run on rails.
Actually driverless trains have been around for a while. The British post office built a narrow gauge underground system in the 1920s and several mass transit systems have fully driverless trains. Since they run under the control of a central signaling system on a fixed route driverless trains are actually easy.
