Keep in mind, the laser will help to ensure that you make the perfect Head Shot on a Zed. Just something comforting about knowing that the little red dot centered between the eyes will increase the odds of putting them down long before they reach the wire.
Well you certainly can't use it if you don't have it! Just remember, it's no use having s**t if you can't remember where it is.
