Police and CCW folks
This is tricky.
In the confusing hoi polloi of a shooting type situation, where a CCW person is trying to do the right thing, how does one communicate, instantly, with scene arriving law enforcement if there are still shots flying?
The article doesn't know, and neither do I.
"Make yourself scarce."
You might not be able to avoid involvement. Can't or won't, depending.

I'm in Law Enforcement and teach the TN CCW course. I tell my students that in any shooting situation where they can, their weapon needs to be holstered or on the ground when the cops arrive. Tell the officer (with your hands visible) that you're armed and ask what he wants you to do. I also tell them that if fleeing the scene seems more prudent than engaging the bad guy to get away and not feel bad about it. Not everyone will have the will, skill set and tools to take on someone like the Dallas shooter.
Yes it would be tricky. I think at the very least it would be good to advise not to have a gun in your hand when the police arrive and to keep your hands where they can easily be seen by the officers.
