In personal survival rations

I have tasted of the Biscuits and Gravy and Chicken and Dumpling and pronounce them very good.

Add them to the list of acceptable 30-year + rations:

  • Beef Stew
  • Spaghetti and Meatballs
  • Chili Mac
  • Lasagna (those three are practically the same thing with a different form factor)
  • Noodles and Chicken

I just need to think of various means to boil water.  And acquire water.  Well, I have some techniques.  I can build a fire and hoof it to the creek.  I want ALTERNATIVE heating method.  Like the Coleman stove and drain the hot water heater.  And a dozen other methods in my tool kit.

Get five 50gallon hot water heaters and plumb them in series. Put them in line with your homes water main and your regular use of water in the house will keep them fresh. A simple Colman propane stove is good for boiling water. Get about 10 propane tanks for gas grills. A gas grill will also be handy for the occasional cat or neighbor you need to grill...

I've used some of the surplus Swiss (primarily, other countries also) canned heat devices. Have you tried military fuel tabs and the little folding stove? I haven't had success with them.
Sterno makes a couple of tiny little folding stoves designed for a Sterno can - what I like about the one I have is that the way it is built I can make a fire of twigs in it also to boil water.
As far as water supply, have you thought of catching rainwater for a small scale back up source? A 50 gallon barrel or large container would cover you for a while.

Alcohol stove. Quiet, cheap, light, cheap fuel that stores very well and it can be used in confined spaces safely. Lots of videos on use and fuel choices.
