I worry about Jay because of LaPierre money shenanigans nigh destroying NRA. And say Wayne goes to prison. One of his cronies is probably in line to take that spot with little the board can do about it, since they monkeyed with the rules.
I hope that's not true, but if it was true, why is LaPierre still there?
If the NRA goes defunct because all the malfeasance, where does that leave folks like JayG doing good work there in Fairfax? Like yesterday's post?
The NRA was always the 600 pound gorilla striding through the halls of Congress, scaring some freshman congresscitters half to death. That gorilla wasn't perfect by any means, and didn't always hold the line, but it still did stuff. If the NRA went away, the 2A community would still have money to donate to somebody. Something would take it's place. But it will take a bit to ramp that up to Silverback levels. And that always worries me.

while the nra got all the publicity, the gun owners association was actually doing the work and getting things done. i was a longtime nra member so i'm not speaking from bias. i have had congressmen tell me to my face that they fear the gao, that they carry the big stick. the nra was just a free three martinee lunch. in my state the va. citizen's defense league has carried the load.
When you look at gun control legislation history, too often the NRA turns out to be like Lucy with the football, yanking the win away at the last moment. They have supported anti-gun efforts since they were founded. Wish I had known how bad they were before becoming a Life Member. The whole 76? board member setup is a joke, designed to keep the membership from ever having a say in how the NRA is run. Wayne is just the last (I hope!) of the line of weasels that have screwed over the people with this fake endeavor. Burn it down, time to start NRA 2.0, that might actually be functional.
