My hometown, Hamilton, was also devastated by this flood. My aunt used to show me where the flood waters marked the wall in their houses (up to the second floor), and the house was over a mile from the river.
You can find tons of pics on Google about the 1913 flood. The low level damns that were built because of the flood are falling in to disrepair. Dayton is removing one of it's damns so that the river looks more "natural". Some day the towns down river could pay a heavy price for this.
