I remember in 1974 thinking a penny dated 1944 was FOREVER ago. Somehow that 30 years seems longer than this 70s years.

You've almost got to see a cutaway of the Sabre to believe the complexity.
Sleeve valves! Each with its own gear to spin it.
The made the engine more compact by omitting coolant galleries inside the castings and running lines outside the engine.
