Auroroa shooting victim

Here is one of the luckier Colorado Massacre victims.  She fled immediately, still got shot, but was treated and released.

She posted a picture of her wounds.  Go look and read.

The narrative is the shooter set off his smoke/gas canisters, then opened up with a shotgun, transitioning to his other weapons after.

Looks to me that he shot the young lady with birdshot.  What say you?

If so, this could have been much worse.  Would she be even talking to us in her post if she had been hit by just two 00 buckshot?  Less likely, I think.

Worse?  That ass could have eschewed firearms and use gasoline fire bombs in a crowded theater.

#4 buck probably. Had a friend get hit by birdshot out hunting pheasant. At the distance in a theater there would have been a lot more and smaller holes.

I'm thinking she got hit at a greater distance while fleeing, but good point.

I was thinking #4 buck would have been more devastating. If it was #4 buck, then folks that choose that load to defend their homes....

Every indication so far is that the shooter was a gun-amateur and didn't know what he was doing. His selection of gear (crappy hi-cap mags), his inability to clear a jammed rifle, the selection of his shot size...he wasn't one of us, that's for sure.
And I'm damned glad for it. A gun person who knows what they're doing could have caused a great deal more carnage. But we're not that kind of people. Most gun people that I know are the kind of people that stop that kind of people.

But the shot size tends to suggest something like small buckshot, maybe #4. Can't really tell from the wounds, but #00 would have likely caused more internal damage, and birdshot...I've seen people shot with birdshot and that's not birdshot.

I have to agree with #4 or maybe 6. Definitely not birdshot. I have also seen people shot with birdshot at intermediate range and the pellets will penetrate, but aren't near that size.

Glanced through the blog entries. I noticed both of them (gal and her boyfriend, both say they are Navy veterans) got kinda snippy about the EMT's trying to triage her; given that they had a buncha more people hit with 5.56 rounds this seems only prudent. I'm glad she and her boyfriend got out.

I'd like to echo Murphy's Law in saying that this nut wasn't a "gun guy." But he is part of a real, very small minority of immature, movie-watching wanna-be's. Not gang-bangers, but just as stupid and dangerous; I'm sure you've probably seen one or two out at the range, thankfully calling attention to themselves so I can move a few lanes down. Unfortunately, you can't fix stir-crazy or stupid.
