I've been trying fora couple years to get poppies in. 100th anniversary of the great way, and all. I was hoping they'd be red, but these are fine.

i'm going to guess you grabbed any old packet of poppy seeds at the store? i'm seeing that some poppies (mostly hybrids) can change color based on soil quality, seasonal differences, etc. so next year, they may be red.
At least you got some that came up! That's better than the Fleet average!
If you like flowers that can change color with aoil chemistry, try hydrangeas. My wife and I have a bunch which range from white to pink to blue to purple. They prefer an acidic soil.
