Another data point against my "single stack .40 CCW idea." That .40 is snappy, apparently. Now I want the all steel K40 version, not the polymers shown here, and that weight would help some, but still. Better test it before I plunk down money. It might hurt me more than Breda's Bersa.
"Why don't you just breakdown and get a 9mm, T-Bolt?" Because I have no ammo for a 9mm. I do have ammo for .40. Arsenal simplicity and ammo commonality is a big thing for me. It's why I didn't immediately buy a lefty Ruger Scout. They are nigh ideal except the magazine is not M14, like I already have.

Hardly a well-controlled test, but in my experience, grip fit has MUCH more to do with felt/perceived recoil than the actual cartridge.
I shot a friend's Sig XXX in .40 and HATED it. Brutal-sharp recoil. I shoot .40 in my S&W 4053 with no issue or complaint.
Find someone to borrow one from, or a rental range, before you make your decisions.
(SAAMI specs both 9mm and .40 at 35,000psi, while .45ACP is a measly 21,000.)
I went from zero 9mm to 1500 quite cheaply. And If I hold my nose and shop at wally world for 115 grain crap, 1k rounds would be 200+tax. My pet store charges the same for 9 or 40 (357 Sig too) defensive ammo. +P 9mm and 40 feel about the same to _me_ in identical pistols.
AH HA! Caught You! I KNOW you have .38 Special,.40 S+W and .45ACP in your Arsenal! So you don't want to add another caliber, eh? Okay, fine. Let's keep it simple: Pick ONE. Trade the rest of your Ammo off for that caliber, trade your pistols off for that caliber, then go Practice, Practice, Practice!
So here's an example. Say you choose to do .45ACP. If you don't already have one, you get a Full Size 1911, a Commander Size 1911 for CCW purposes, and a J.R Carbine for Urban Defense. Three guns, same magazines, same ammo. No Problems.
Want to do .40 S+W? Smith and Charter and Taurus have .40 S+W REVOLVERS in their catalogs, so you don't have to worry about "Snappy Slides." Just don't lose the Full Moon Clips.
Lots of different Combos out there. Hell, even in .357, you can do Snubbies from Hell, a Coonan and a Lever Gun if you wanted to.
So. paraphrasing MeatLoaf, "What's it going to be, boy? What's it going to be?" That's where I'd start, then I'd Shop and Simplify my Arsenal.
Oh, BTW, RE the Scout Rife: tell me how those Navy Garand clips fit into a M-1 again? ; )
I'm thinking of ditching the .40S&W, Les. If the Colt New Agent was a good gun that would push it over the top. One revolver round, one semi round and magazine, and a matching carbine for both types.
Hey, at least Breda's Bersa didn't shoot you in the neck. :)
