S&W makes the 'standard' of revolvers still.
Ruger does a good job keeping them honest and making them a little bit cheaper.
There is Charter Arms, still.
Others. Chiappa? Taurus.
Revolvers are still around yes. And there a people like you and me that still use them. But is the writing on the wall? Could they go the way of the Dodo?
I'm kinda surprised they are still going as strong as they are now. In 2019. If I had to guess 20 years ago how strong the revolver market would be today I wouldn't guess as strong as they are now. So good for them.
Smith announced they are bringing back the 648. Which is like my 617 but for 8 instead of 10 shot, and BOOM boom boom wmr instead of lr. Doesn't blow my skirt up but I bet it does a lotta peeps. I hope they buy a crapton to show their appreciation. I like that S&W bring models back like this.
What's the ultimate Smiff revolver? The Model 66 with a 3" barrel? Big enough AND small enough?

Only if the 66 was built like it was 40 years ago. 2 1/2 inch BBL is fine with me. I have a few 65's "ladysmiths" that will take care of my needs.
And of course the Ruger Speed Six .357 with 2 3/4 inch bbl is outstanding to!
Revolvers make sense in some parts of the country. For example, there is no longer any rule of law in parts of the Northeast. In NY State, you can only have a 10-round magazine with 7 rounds in it. Or maybe not. It depends on where you are and which PD or SO you're dealing with. In Massachusetts, the law bans any semiauto weapon "capable of accepting" a magazine of more than 10 rounds. "Capable of accepting" is not codified anywhere, so it means whatever the Mass AG decided it means when she woke up this morning. If all you have are 10-rounders for your Glock 26, it's still capable of accepting bigger magazines, so you're on thin ice.
All this legal idiocy is moot if you're carrying a revolver. (And the smooth curves on a round-butt revolver conceal better than the sharp angle at the heel of an autopistol.)
Don't forget that Colt is making their Python again and that Kimber has also enter the market as well.
I’ve always been a Colt guy, but the Model 19s and 66s of the early 70s were great pistols.
S&W Model 19 with 6" barrel gets my vote.
Some revolver advantages: not semiauto relative to gun banners, can't go out of battery if you have to jam the barrel against what you are shooting, heavier loadings for serious things like bears, some older people don't have the hand strength to work the slide on a semi auto, and cleaning and maintainance is easier. What more is there to like.
I, for one, don't care for the internal lock one bit. I don't know why S&W make their M&P semis without a lock, but one is so necessary for a revolver.
