A Saiga 12 shotgun is the right tool for the job. With a 20 round drum - if you need a reload with one of those you're seriously outnumbered.
But, reloads are as fast as switching out a magazine on an AK series so its quick enough.
I do agree on the ammo weight issue though.
As for myself, I'm still wondering why the Walking Dead cast has not picked up all those cast aside M16s and other goodies and instead stick to a couple rifles and some pistols...
Head shots are the only thing that puts them down. And .22 LR's out of a rifle are effective against the human head. Lots of lightweight but effective ammo. Some .22 rifles have large capacity magazines, so you can shoot & scoot for a long time without reloading.
