Someone more eloquent than me

Discusses Depression Lust on the left that I also noticed 10 years ago.  NPR was BEGGING for bread lines.  "Next Christmas, the most appreciated gift will be food," because people won't be able to afford it.

It's not that a big economic downturn can't happen.  It surely can.  But geez, don't wish it into existence.

I've read that the sharper the decline the faster the recovery, if the stupid expert government employees (but I repeat myself) can keep their ignorant fingers off the parts of the economy they can manipulate.
It's what kept the economy going so anemically from the time the "Boy Wonder", as Calvin Coolidge referred to Herbert Hoover, started trying to slow the fall (and extending the recovery) through the time the patrician economic nincompoop Franklin Roosevelt managed to get America into the war (maybe not intentionally, but he certainly sent destroyers into harm's way on the route to Britain) until FDR passed on and people came home to buy things they could not do without. It wasn't the war, it was actually after the war that the economy recovered. During the war unemployment was "cured" by sending men not needed for the war effort to go fight other potentially unemployed men of other countries.
