Yes, they have been quite popular. Stylish even. For a very long time.
But there was a time... When Jordache jeans were popular... From the mid seventies to the early 80s Chuck Taylors were NOT popular. Adidas and Nike were coming into their own. And these shoes were not. They were called fish heads. Un-fashionable.
The only thing less popular were K-Mart blue-light specials.
"We're gonna walk down to K-Mart and buy some shoes. They only cost a dollar."
