A possible alternative is the Ruger SP101 spurless DA.
The hammer isn't completely enclosed, and the pistol is a little bigger/heavier than a S&W640. But those may be minor details. Depending on how much you hate that damn Smith and Wesson trigger lock.

S&W is making J frames without the lock now.
For SOME J Frames, PW. I'm hoping they do it for all J Frames, soon...
we have one of these and it is NICE. Mike carries it frequently.
The Sp101 is a very fine revolver. Heavy, but if you can get past that you'll love it.
