Weld a 1911 barrel

No worries B.  The welded metal goes nowhere near the rifling.  Just here:

Ah, big difference. Still, heat treatment and embrittlement would bother me, but I am not a gunsmith, so what do I know?

It would be better to get an oversize barrel, new, and fit down from it.
