I've seen this happen

Travelling south on Interstate 95 near the exit for Route 212.  It didn't hit anyone but bounces like a Dambuster bomb into the woods on the left side of the highway.  Scary stuff.

Driver never even tried to avoid it......

Lot of weight in motion with a set of big rig duals. Driver was lucky it wasn't bouncing before he hit it.

Problem is most people, when driving, don't see anything smaller than whatever they are driving. Especially if it is something they have no experience with. That's why they can look at a motorcycle and have the brain ignore it. Their not lying when they claim they never saw it.

Probably more dangerous is a jacked up pickup with those tires that look like they belong on a farm tractor. LOT of weight/mass usually on the OEM lug studs. Not strong enough. I've seen where a pickup lost a rear wheel, had it bounce over the center divide and hit an oncoming car and total it. That mother and children were lucky it hit the grill and hood. It hit so hard that the wheel shattered, and it moved the engine and transmission. A previous incident had one go through the windshield and decapitate the woman driver. A coworker reported that he saw it bounce over his car, and saw the following car crash into the divider wall.

Had a number of instances where I would find a car on the side of the freeway, missing a wheel. I would find the wheel a 1/4 mile ahead, laying up against the wall or guard rail. Jack the car up, steal a lugnut from each of the other wheels, and send them to an auto parts store to get enough to replace all the missing nuts. These were almost always 4 lug cars that lost wheels. Others were typically big pickups, with the large hub that would support the wheel while it was shedding nuts.

Will, I'm looking for dogs and goofs running through traffic. Of course I'm on the spectrum as they say now, so even if I'm thinking of other stuff, I'm looking around.

I gotta get that Dambusters movie on Blu-ray.
Even, or especially now, with the history enemies trying to cancel the whole war because of Guy Gibson's dog's name.
