I forget. Are we supposed to be rooting for him or against him?
Well, there aren't many papists agitating for violent overthrow and force conversion these days. But, in modern times, the sentiment of his attempted blow against a tyrannical gov't seems to be the mantle the Guy shoulders. Our side eschews instigating the first blow, too. I trust.
"Remember remember the 5th of November, gun powder, treason, and plot. I see no reason why Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot." Cultural imagery alien to most Americans. On one hand a tragic figure, military hero, and an example of the noble individual "taking on the Man", but also traitor, attempted murderer, and failed revolutionary. Movies like "V for Vendetta" glorify the image. I would be most curious to find out the thoughts of our Founding Fathers on this most English tradition.
